I was cleaning out some drawers and ran across some notes that I had taken from a design class many many many years ago. (I won't mention how long ago this was but the paper has a slight yellow color.)
I read over the notes and realized that these design elements would apply to jewelry design as well. So I thought I would post my notes.
There are 5 basic design elements.
Line
Shape
Form
Color
Texture
Lines can be straight, diagonal or curved.
Shapes are line that are closed. For example a circle or a rectangle or a triangle.
Form has three dimensions: length x width x depth
Color - the characteristics are hue, value, and intensity.
Texture is the surface quality. For example, is it rough or smooth. Texture creates visual interest.
There are other elements: Repetition, Balance, Scale, Porpotion, Space, Emphasis, Unity, Movement, and Repetition.
I will do more research and give more information on the other elements.

- I initially began making jewelry by stringing beads into various designs. Very quickly, I found that was not very artistically rewarding or challenging. In January of 2003, I began the learning process of wire wrapping/sculpting. I am primarily a self-educated artist but have learned techniques via videotapes from Master Wire Artist Preston Reuther as well as from instructional books written by Jessie Donnan, a wire artist twice featured in Wire Artist Jeweller magazine. In April 2004, I completed an intermediate 'Cougarism - Techniques of Wire Jewelry Design' class taught by Dale Armstrong of Cougars Creations. In 2007, I took a glass fusing class under the instruction of Brad Walker, author of Warm Glass. I use my hands to wrap and sculpt the wire and use minimal tools in the process. I use .925 sterling silver wire, 14/20k gold filled wire as well as a variety of stones, mineral, glass, and other materials in my jewelry.
