Design Elements

I was cleaning out some drawers and ran across some notes that I had taken from a design class many many many years ago. (I won't mention how long ago this was but the paper has a slight yellow color.)

I read over the notes and realized that these design elements would apply to jewelry design as well.  So I thought I would post my notes.

There are 5 basic design elements.
Line
Shape
Form
Color
Texture

Lines can be straight, diagonal or curved.
Shapes are line that are closed. For example a circle or a rectangle or a triangle.
Form has three dimensions:  length x width x depth
Color - the characteristics are hue, value, and intensity.
Texture is the surface quality.  For example, is it rough or smooth.  Texture creates visual interest.

There are other elements:  Repetition, Balance, Scale, Porpotion, Space, Emphasis, Unity, Movement, and Repetition.

I will do more research and give more information on the other elements.

But that's all for now.

Colin arrived on Wed 2/24

Our first grandchild was born this past Wednesday. He weighed in at 8 lb 7 oz and has a head full of hair. He is so sweet and I can't wait till he is big enough to stay with "Nana". Needless to say, I haven't been in my studio in about a week.

I did get some glass cabs made and there are several green ones that are really neat looking. I think that I am going to make a seed bead bezel on one of them and then wrap one in wire. Hopefully, I can post a picture when I get them finished.

Oh I have 2 new selling venues...1000Markets and ArtFire. Check them out as I do not have any duplicate pieces on the sites. Each site has different jewelry. Just click on the links below.

It's been a while

WOW, I cannot believe how fast time is flying by. I noticed the date on the last blog and could not believe that it was 9 months ago. That is long enough to have a baby...oh wait..there is a baby...not mine but my first grandchild..he is expected to be here within the next week I hope.

Let' see, I haven't really done much for the Living Large line..the inspiration just isn't there yet. I tried a few things but just was not satisfied.

But I did create some small gemstone pendants called Gemmee's. I currently have them on Etsy. They are really neat! Here is a picture of one of them. I hope to get some creative juices flowing and create some more pieces. Maybe some inspiration will come for my Living Large line.

Designing a Collection

The past few days I have been trying to come up with a new line of jewelry. I have almost decided to create a "Living Large" collection. This collection will feature jewelry on a larger scale than I normally make. Not only will this collection be for the larger woman but for anyone who likes "living large".

As I get these pieces designed and made, I will post pictures either here or on my website.

till later....
